Ruth Roman is the youngest daughter of Lithuanian as well as Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) & Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. In her early years, Ruth Roman's father, a carnival barker, passed away in a tragic way, which caused her mother, Mary Pauline (Gold) to work as an attendant or cleaner to help them survive. Ruth lived in the tenement area of poverty of Boston, Massachusetts, where she went to school. The school she attended just two years later to pursue a career as an actor. There were many hurdles to overcome on the path she chose to pursue. In New York she was hired to pose for photos for a publication about crime however, no theatre job opportunities came up. Following a short time as a club hat girl, she decided to return home to the United States and quit the job she was working in. It was there that she was able to earn a living as an usherette by in the daytime, while at night she performing with the New England Repertory Company. This was her very first role as an actor. She received a master's degree in drama from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
